Staff Training

Supporting confident, capable and inspiring educators

Oxfordshire RTC Staff Training supports schools to build capacity, confidence and expertise in physical education (PE), physical activity and whole-school active learning. We provide high-quality professional development that is practical, relevant and directly applicable to classroom and extra-curricular settings. Our aim is to support teachers and support staff to deliver engaging, inclusive and development-focused physical activity across the school day.

Supporting Your School Community

Investing in staff training builds confidence, supports retention, strengthens delivery and enhances pupil experience. Our staff development programmes help teachers and support staff feel equipped, inspired and capable of leading high-quality physical education and activity.

Aligned with our broader Schools & Education mission, staff training contributes to developing active, confident and engaged young people both on and off the pitch.

Professional Development for Physical Education

Our PE training develops teacher expertise in planning, delivering and assessing high-quality physical education.

  • Curriculum design and progression
  • Lesson delivery and behaviour management
  • Assessment for learning in PE
  • Adapting activities for diverse learners

These sessions are practical, hands-on and designed to build confidence in delivering purposeful, development-led PE that supports long-term physical literacy and engagement.

Active Learning & Whole-School Development

Physical activity has a positive impact on behaviour, wellbeing, focus and school culture. We work with schools to embed active learning opportunities across the school day, including:

  • Active transitions and movement breaks
  • Play and activity zones in unstructured times
  • Strategies to increase daily activity levels
  • Integration of movement into wider curriculum areas

This support helps schools foster cultures where physical activity is valued, accessible and sustainable.

Leadership & Coaching Skills (Underdog Leadership)

In addition to core PE and active learning training, Oxfordshire RTC offers enhanced leadership development through our partnership with Underdog Leadership. Led by Dan Harris, Underdog Leadership supports staff to develop behaviours and mindsets that drive positive culture and empower young people.

  • Through this partnership, staff can access sessions that focus on:
  • Reflective leadership practice
  • Effective communication and influence
  • Building resilience and confidence
  • Creating empowering learning environments

The impact of this work has been significant for both staff and young people within Oxfordshire RTC, and it now forms a core part of our leadership development offer for schools.
